“Maxwell in the Abstract” is Maxwell Nightser, an artist and actor in Portland, OR. He has performed on stage and television with an appearance on Grimm and in a commercial for Nickelodeon’s 2015 Kids Choice Sports Awards Show, alongside Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Russel Wilson. On stage he has performed as “Swamee Kree”, in Valley Repertory Theatre’s production, of local playwright Charles Deemer’s play, “Christmas at the Juniper Tavern”. His paintings had been featured in art shows produced by RAWArtists Portland, a grassroots organization that promotes new and upcoming artists around the world.

What makes the images in this adult coloring book unique?

The style in which the images are created is new and complex. It has been described as “Coralizing”. An initial image is drawn lightly in pencil. When complete, the shapes are filled in with a single, meandering black line, drawn with black sharpie’s of different sizes. The line is a single line with the ends coming together so the color is contained within. Instead of coloring a circle, you are coloring the elements within the circle. The circle was there only to allow the “coralizing” and once that occurs the circle that was there is erased. Images become more complex and interesting.

People everywhere need to unwind. And a fun, simple way to address this need is with coloring books.
