Could
you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I was a biological
research scientist in both academics and industry for 34 years before a layoff
gave me the opportunity to become a full-time writer. Now, at the age of 64, I find myself in a
profession I will never quit.
I have published
poetry over the years, but 11 years ago I decided to try my hand at short
stories, horror and science fiction being the type of stories I write. Recently, I had my 26th short
story accepted for publication. I have
also published a novel, New Moon Rising, with Mélange Books.
.
Describe
your book ‘New Moon Rising’’ in 30 words or less.
The Ring of Fire,
source of so much destruction in the past, is about to change life on our
planet forever.
What
was the hardest part of writing your book?
When I write
science fiction, I try to incorporate science fact as much as I can to give the
story an air of believability. Somehow,
this story chose me and I was not equipped with the background to make it seem
real. I had to do a great deal of
research on geology and the birth of our moon the give the story credibility.
What
books have had the greatest influence on you?
Of course, I read a great deal of horror and science fiction. I’ve read most of Stephen King’s words. I also enjoy the books by Arthur C. Clarke
and H.G. Wells among a host of other great science fiction authors. Currently, I am consumed by the complete
works of fiction by H. P. Lovecraft.
However, I do not limit my reading.
I read current fiction and enjoy reading works by Nobel laureates.
I also enjoy reading non-fiction.
I enjoy reading history and criticism.
Recently, I discovered the works of Michael Dirda and am mystified by
his knowledge of literature.
So to answer the question, it is my love of books that has influenced my
life.
Briefly
share with us what you do to market your book?
Mélange Books has
worked hard to market my novel, New Moon Rising.
Locally, an
independent bookstore, Chester County Book & Music Company, has agreed not
only to sell my book, but also allowed me to have a book signing at their store
that was quite successful.
I also have a
blog, walttriznastories.wordpress.com, which I use to publicize my work.
Finally, I have
joined Bookbuzzr, Goodreads, Savvy Authors and Manic readers to make my work
known to the reading public.
How do
you spend your time when you are not writing?
As I’m sure is
true with most writers, I spend a great deal of time reading.
I also cook and
garden, and when my wife as at work, spend a great deal of time talking to our
chocolate lab mix, Millie. So far, she
hasn’t answered me back.
What
are you working on next?
I have a host of
projects in the works.
I am constantly
writing short stories. My 26th published
short story was just accepted.
Two more of my
novels, The Beast Awaits and Sweet Depression, are currently seeking a
home. The Beast Awaits involves stem
cell research and global warming. Sweet
Depression is a novel where a drug has deadly side effects.
