Interview - Suzannah Burke

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am an Australian, living in the beautiful harbor side city of Sydney. I love to write, well a little more than that..I spend most of my waking hours writing. I take a break occasionally and head off to my favorite fishing areas. I share an apartment with my beautiful daughter…and one decidedly strange puss cat.

Describe your book ‘Empty Chairs’ in 30 words or less.

Empty chairs is my biography of living through and beyond child abuse in all its forms. It is a journey beyond pain and into life.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Reliving the memories was incredibly difficult, however I had made a promise to a very dear friend, someone who shared my life from an early age when we were living on the streets. I had promised her I would write it; she died by her own hand before I had honored that promise. Empty Chairs and the upcoming sequel is my way of finally doing so.

What books have had the greatest influence on you?

So many books, in so many different ways. For a powerful book that remains imbedded in my memory I would have to say “To Kill a Mockingbird” By Harper Lee. And for a book that impacted me quite unexpectedly I would say “Without Remorse” By Tom Clancy.

Briefly share with us what you do to market your book?

I have a very active Facebook and Twitter profile, and interact with promotional groups on FB. I also have an active blog on which I review books, host blog tours, run writing contests, and conduct Author interviews. I find that writers are a very generous group of people and the number of reviews I have had thus far on Empty Chairs reflects that generosity of spirit.

How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

I’m laughing at the question. Apart from forcing myself to interact with the outside world by fishing and entertaining occasionally…oh, and sleeping of course; there isn’t actually much time when I’m not writing.

What are you working on next?

I have the sequel to Empty Chairs which is of course written under my pen name of Stacey Danson…the working title for the sequel is “Bordering On Extinction” . It answers the myriad of questions I have been asked by people that purchased Empty Chairs…I have been overwhelmed by the number of folks that wanted to know more about my life, a very humbling experience.

For the necessary break I must have away from that emotional area, I have just completed my first fictional novel, A psychological thriller with the working title of “Comes a Pale Horse”

The story is an explosion of deceit and corruption  within the corridors of power in the USA. Entwined with 16 serial murders…or are they assassinations. I am very excited about this book.
