Interview - Deanna Jewel

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I love to write romance stories that will pull the reader into my world to give them a mini vacation from their own world. My characters will tease and taunt them, not allowing the reader to put the book down until they finish!  Besides writing, I help hubby at the office but I do take my writing with me when I'm there, too! LOL Our business is seasonal but lately our off season is becoming way busier than it used to be - we are in the tax business and the IRS keeps all of us hopping!

Describe your book ‘Never Surrender’ in 30 words or less.

Shoshone warrior, Taima, searches the future by slipping into the dreams of his soul mate. Kate Bradach is pulled back in time by her soul mate she's not yet met.

What was the hardest part of writing your books?

It takes a lot of discipline to make yourself write on a daily basis which I find hard to do but am working to get past this. One needs to write, and read, daily to keep their own writing alive and fresh. My readers are asking for a sequel to Never Surrender so I need to keep my butt in the chair! LOL

What books have had the greatest influence on you?

I have to say it's writers more than a single book or two. The great romance writers of the past who pulled so much history, English and American, into their writing; they are who made me fall in love with the historical periods I write in and strive to achieve the same sense of place that they did in their books.

Briefly share with us what you do to market your books?

I do all my own marketing, since I do my own publishing and covers. This is very time consuming but a part of my writer's life that I love doing! I spend most mornings posting on blogs, other websites, placing ads on other sites, being visible on FaceBook, Twitter, and many romance websites.

How do you spend your time when you are not writing?

If I'm not writing, I'm marketing and find that one has to have a lot of self control to stay off the internet so writing CAN take place! I love to work in my yard and gardens as a de-stressor which is where I do a lot of plotting for books and scenes.

What are you working on next?

I will take up my writing full time again come May and hope to have another book out in late September - Whispers At Ghost Point - a contemporary that takes place in Wilmington NC about a ghost in a lighthouse that gets renovated by my heroine. Reincarnation and second chances at love are a common theme in my books and my third is no exception. My characters are reincarnated from No Turning Back.....*wink*
