Q:How long have you been writing?
A:

Since high school, but I didn't seriously pursue getting published until about five years ago.

Q:Where do you get your ideas from?
A: My ideas come from many avenues.  I've dreamed them, they've popped into my head while walking my dog, you name it.  The project I'm working on now, a suspense thriller, came to me while I was mowing my yard.

Q:Are you ever inspired by life experiences or people when creating a story?
A:

I write pure fiction, but I think most writers will tell you that a part of who we are as a person finds its way onto the written page.  We are each molded by the dark valleys and mountain top experiences in our lives.  The same goes for my characters.  Most of my heroines are strong, willful creatures molded and inspired by the women in my life.  For instance, my heroine in the project I'm working on now is a combination of three wonderful women I know.

Q:Do you plot out your stories?
A: No.  I'm a panster.  When I’m ‘in the zone’ I’m in my own little world with the characters and they’re telling me who they are and what their pasts are. They don’t always share with me where they want to go with their story though, but that’s okay, that’s one of the exciting things about being a panster. Imagine riding a roller coaster blindfolded. Your heart feels like it’s going to explode in your chest. Beads of perspiration peppers your forehead. Adrenaline sours through your veins. You don’t know where the next turn is, and you’re terrified it’s going to derail any second. Sound exciting? It is. It’s why I love to write. And why I love writing suspense.

Q:Why do you write?
A: Simple answer—because I have to. I sort of imagine giving birth is somewhat similar to a writer having a book published. You have this idea in your head, and after it bounces around for a while, you write it down. Next you plot out the twists and turns that will draw a reader into the story and keep them there. Then you have to create some characters that are true to life so people can connect to them. You can’t have a perfect character. They have to have flaws, just like a real person. As the story begins to move along, the characters start to come to life. Often times, leading you in directions you never thought of. This is the really fun part for me, when the story starts to write itself, and I’m just along for the ride. Then comes the end. You’ve grown attached to these little guy’s, they’re a part of you. You’ve played, ate, and slept with them for months – sometimes years – and you don’t want to let them go. You have to though, cause you have another story bouncing around in your head that is begging to be told.
