My name is Aubrie Mindock and I am the author of the book "Back Up On Skis: My Journey Back to Ski Racing" as well as a professional skier.
I have been skiing since I was 2 years old and racing since I was 5. By the time I was 15 years old I was training for the Olympics when all of the sudden I took a fall. Since it was the end of the day I had to find a way to save myself. It was during my recovery that I realized that my dreams of being an Olympian might not happen.
Instead of giving up I got back on my skis and skied my way to college where I became once again a top competitor. During my second race of the season at Winter Park ski area I took another fall. I remember going to Heaven and came back to life. I ended up with a fractured neck, concussion, fractured skull, broken arm, broken knee and torn up wrist. Due to my head injury everyone said I would never race again and I would be lucky if I even skied again. I was out of the Olympics, or so I thought.
I never gave up hope that I would become an Olympic athlete and it wasn't long before I was not only back up on skis but also back to competiting. Today I am a pro skier as well as an Olympic hopeful. I decided to write a book about my story to bring hope and inspire others to never give up. Bad things happen but there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
My hope for you is that you go for your dreams and dream big. Have many goals and just enjoy your life. I want to reach out to as many people as I can, espically youth because everyone deserves to have a chance at life and have wonderful goals to reach. Well, that is me in a nutshell.
