The Story Behind This Book
Many years ago I was privileged to live with an elderly Gentleman who lived in an African Kraal. He and Elders of the Tribe told me many tales of life in the Bush. They told me all about life from the 1890's until after WW2.
This book and the entire series was inspired by those tales.
The research has taken some years to complete. A lot of information was from the Royal Canadian Regimental Museum and Archives. Some of this I put onto http://wizzley.com/reap-the-savage-whirlwind-a-novel-saga/ This shows just how much research is necessary.
I was also helped by the University of Toronto who gave me a PDF of "The Matabele Rebellion" which was written in the closing years of the 19th Century and was about the defence of Belingwe as it was then called.
One problem is that history is subjective and many books have been written about this era that set out to prove the writers' views and beliefs.
The reason for this research for a novel is the desire to provide accurate background information.
The characters, other than historical figures, are of course purely fictional and should bear no resemblance of anyone of the same name either living or dead.
