The Story Behind This Book
I have been a professional organizer for several years and before that, I shared ideas with people about organizing their spaces. I didn’t realize that other people didn’t have the same skills that I had when it came to sorting, grouping, and eliminating clutter.
For the past few years, I have been thinking differently about clutter. Although I endorse a “simple living” approach, I now recognize that doesn’t work with everyone. So the aim of this book is to help you learn to live with what you have.
After speaking engagements, participants would ask if I had written a book. My standard reply was, “There are so many organizing books already and I don’t want to add to people’s book clutter.” I have seen people who collect organizing books, thinking the books will change their lives. A book isn’t going to change your life, though; you need to be an active participant in the process.
That is why I wrote this book. I will teach you a few tricks that I hope will make a profound difference in how you see your relationship to things. In addition, I hope to inspire you to think about how you live your life and what you want to change.
If you don’t want to change, that’s okay, too. In that case, I hope to encourage you to enjoy your life and your choices.
