If you’re looking for a strict play by play of the RAAM, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a training manual on bicycling, this also won’t fit the bill. This book provides a memoir/ travelogue account of one crew member’s experiences during the 2009 Race Across America, billed as the Toughest Bike race in the World. It is composed of scattered recollections, and as such is fragmentary in nature. However, you will find lots of reflection on the meaning of the race and what brings people to it. Just don’t read it with expectations of learning solely about the riders or the mile by mile race itself, though there is a bit of that.
