The global famine and societal collapse that followed would render humans an endangered species themselves, hanging onto survival in the most remote places. In this community men are viewed as wholly unfit to make decisions of their own, widely blamed for the downfall of the species. Women, by contrast, are painted as inherently honest, wise and natural-born leaders.
